National Volunteer Week: Celebrating Our Unsung Heroes
20/05/2024
National Volunteer Week runs from Monday 20 to Sunday 26 May 2024 and is a celebration to acknowledge the generous contribution of our nation’s incredible volunteers.View the National Volunteer Week Toolkit for key messages, social media templates, certficates, and posters
The week-long celebration runs every year, with thousands of events and activities taking place across the country. In Western Australia, it is an opportunity to connect and celebrating the diverse volunteering stories across the state.
The latest State of Volunteering Report revealed 1.5 million individuals dedicate their time to volunteering in Western Australia, generating a substantial value of $63.9 billion for the state. The volunteering sector contributes significantly to the WA workforce and is the largest industry by employment—greater than health, mining, construction, retail or education sectors.
In 2024, the theme for National Volunteer Week is ‘Something for Everyone’. It’s an invitation to explore the myriad of opportunities available, emphasising that there's a place for everyone in the world of volunteering. Whether you're drawn to environmental causes, community outreach, education, or beyond, there's a place where your unique skills and interests can flourish.
There will be hundreds, if not thousands of National Volunteer Week activities across the State. This year an expanded grants program resulted in 253 volunteer involving organisations sharing over $335,000 in Lotterywest funding to recognise the contribution of their volunteers.
Volunteering WA has developed a suite of resources for individuals and organisations to celebrate the week. We invite all Western Australians to join us as we celebrate the transformative impact of everyone finding their role in making a difference.
