Lotterywest National Volunteer Week funding announced

15/03/2024

Volunteering WA welcomes the funding announcement from Volunteering Minister Hon. Don Punch MLA of $425,000 to help organisations celebrate their volunteers during National Volunteer Week 2024.

Funded through Lotterywest, Volunteering WA will help recognise Western Australia’s 1.5 million volunteers through the 2024 National Volunteer Week Grants program and raise awareness through the WA Volunteer of the Year Awards.

National Volunteer Week runs from Monday 20 to Sunday 26 May 2024 and is an annual celebration to acknowledge the generous contribution of our nation's incredible volunteers.

Volunteering WA CEO Tina Williams said the increased funding to recognise volunteering was vital.

“This investment in volunteer recognition will help volunteering organisations say ‘thank you’ to those Western Australians who give so much for the betterment of our communities. This announcement aligns with our advocacy to increase State Government funding to recognise and celebrate volunteers. We thank the State Government and Lotterywest for this investment in volunteering,” said Williams.

2024 WA Volunteer of the Year Awards

The 2024 WA Volunteer of the Year Awards program celebrates the value and incredible contributions of volunteering to the social, cultural, economic, and environmental well-being of Western Australia and pays tribute to those volunteers who inspire and promote the spirit of volunteerism through their exemplary endeavours.

Nominations were open from 8 January – 8 March 2024. Finalists will be announced at the end of March, with the winner recognised at the WA Volunteer of the Year Awards in Perth on 23 May.

National Volunteer Week Grants, supported by Lotterywest

Each year, Volunteering WA offers small grants to be used by organisations to celebrate their volunteers during National Volunteer Week.

Volunteering WA is thrilled to have received increased support from Lotterywest with $335,000 in grants available, meaning even more WA organisations can celebrate their volunteers in May.

Grants of up to $1,500 have been awarded to volunteer organisations to help fund an event or activity to recognise and thank volunteers during National Volunteer Week.

Applications for the National Volunteer Week Grants were open from 8 January – 18 February 2024, with successful recipients to be announced in early March.

In 2023 more than 175 WA volunteer organisations shared in over $200,000, with 175 events held across WA recognising more than 13,997 volunteers.
