Activate Mental Health enables people to take action to improve their well-being through running and participating in fun social events. It is a small but growing enterprise with 20 volunteers and has been a member of Volunteering WA since 2021.

Rahul Seth, Founder, Activate Mental Health, speaks about the organisation's work, volunteers, and value of Volunteering WA.

Rahul, tell us more about Activate Mental Health, your volunteering programs and impact?

There are many aspects of running Activate Mental Health. This includes facilitating events, networking with key stakeholders in the community, guiding the leadership team to help increase the organisation's impact and providing support to people who want to volunteer in the field of mental health and well-being.

We have a wide range of volunteers who assist Activate Mental Health. The primary volunteer role is as an event host, where volunteers run their own fun social activities, such as walks, board games at cafes, or ten pin bowling, for the benefit of the group participants. These activities occur on weeknights and weekends, when mainstream mental health services are less available, and when people may be at their most vulnerable.

Activate Mental Health started as a small initiative, but as we continue our path to become a registered charity, I have been able to mobilise a small leadership team that are able to take on tasks of the group, including volunteer management and marketing.

What do you value about Volunteering WA?

Being a member of Volunteering WA helps boost the legitimacy of our cause and gives us the ability to use their services.

We have been able to advertise and recruit both new event hosts and skilled volunteers who have improved aspects. Recently, we had a highly skilled volunteer upgrade our website.

We also appreciate the training and development opportunities. Our volunteer manager has been able to network with other volunteer managers and get resources that give us a better understanding of things such as the volunteer cycle.

It is brilliant how Volunteering WA assists organisations like ours so we can better support volunteers, which leads to more positive outcomes in the community.
