Corporate Volunteering

We were heartened to see the corporate sector rally and swiftly respond to the emergencies within our state during the year, assisting vulnerable people and recovery in our communities. At Volunteering WA our corporate volunteering team adapted and redesigned opportunities to ensure that corporate volunteering could support those most in need whilst meeting the new safety procedures and protocols required for volunteering safely and effectively in a COVID environment.

Team based volunteering : The start of the financial year welcomed back team volunteer days, which had been on hiatus for the first few months of 2020 due to the pandemic. Our corporate volunteers were eager to get back into the community, and BHP and Woodside increased their targets by 40% to meet demands from their employees who wanted to get back into the community and help.

Skills based volunteering: Our skills based volunteering program continued to link highly skilled corporate volunteers into discrete projects at a variety of our not-for-profit member organisations in areas such as risk management, IT and marketing.

Regional: In March 2021, Volunteering WA employed a Pilbara local to coordinate our corporate volunteering programs in Port Hedland and Newman, with plans to hire additional support in 20-21. The new Regional Community Engagement coordinator has provided vital on-the-ground support to volunteer involving organisations and corporate partners in the region – helping to better service the community.

Value of corporate volunteer time given to WA community during the year is estimated at $508,425.

In the past 12 months, Volunteering WA worked with Woodside, BHP, Shell, Perron Group, Rio Tinto and Bankwest to connect volunteers to community.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

New Partners

Along with increased participation from existing corporate partners, the 2020-21 year saw the addition of several new and exciting partnerships:

  • In March we began working with Perron Group, providing 12 team volunteering days to their employees, which assisted a variety of our members supported by the Stan Perron Charitable Foundation.
  • June saw the beginning of our partnership with Horizon Power, which will involve team and skilled volunteering activities to employees in six regions across WA – for some of these regions this will be the first time the VWA Corporate program has assisted with corporate volunteers.
  • Finally, we re-engaged a longstanding Volunteering WA corporate member, Rio Tinto, to assist their employees with ad-hoc corporate volunteering opportunities. We are excited to see how our partnership with Rio Tinto may grow over the coming year.

 

SNAPSHOT OF VOLUNTEER FEEDBACK

  • 96% of volunteers said they would do skills-based volunteering again.
  • 90% that said they would recommend team-based volunteering to a colleague.

 

In May the Corporate Volunteer Council (CVC) brought together senior executives from their company to participate in a joint volunteering day, alongside the Hon Reece Whitby MLA, Minister for Volunteering during National Volunteer Week. We worked together to sort clothing at local organisation, Dress for Success, that supports women needing confidence to re-enter the workforce.
