Volunteering WA courses
Board presentation
This board presentation is designed for CEO's and Boards of Management to have a conversation with them about the importance of their role in nurturing and enabling the culture of volunteering within their own organisation. It covers developing a philosophy to plan for volunteer involvement, setting standards of achievement for a volunteer management program and incorporating the planning process in strategic planning.
Disability Awareness training
This fun, interactive training session invites you to ‘walk in someone else’s shoes,’ and gain an insight into some of the challenges people with disabilities face. You will also obtain some great practical tips for interacting and working with people with disabilities. This session is a great way to enhance your skills, knowledge and awareness of issues facing people in the disability sector.
Step into Volunteering
The Step into Volunteering is an informal introduction to volunteering which is presented by VWA volunteers. It is of particular value to those who are volunteering for the first time and those who are seeking different volunteer experiences.
Introduction to VWA and the sector
An opportunity is provided to meet the staff of VWA and find out about the support services available through an organisation’s membership entitlement, as well as an introduction to successful and rewarding volunteer management.
Volunteer management network meetings
The Volunteer Management Network provides volunteer managers and coordinators with the opportunity to discuss and share ideas, developments and concerns relating to volunteer management programs.
Free volunteer training modules
In keeping with the times, Volunteering Australia has developed an e-learning resource for volunteers, entitled “Be an Effective Volunteer”. It is presented in six modules, and takes about two hours to complete. The modules include various topics of interest to potential and current volunteers, including
- The Rights and Responsibilities of a Volunteer
- Occupational Health and Safety
- Volunteer Grievances
- Insurance
- Diversity
- Time Management
The modules would be ideal for students who would like to learn more about volunteering and how to get involved. It could also be used as an induction tool for a volunteer or a small group of volunteers, making it ideal for volunteering organisations.
Volunteering WA are pleased to announce that we have purchased 500 training places on this module to offer to our members for free. Those interested in taking up this offer should contact us using our online contact form stating how many places they would like for volunteers. We will then get back in touch with you for registration details. Priority will be given to financial members if demand is greater than 500. Our thanks go to the Department of Families, Housing, Community Services and Indigenous Affairs (FaHCSIA) for enabling us to make this offer.
