International Volunteer Day

International Volunteer Day (IVD) occurs on December 5 each year and was started by the United Nations General Assembly in 1985. IVD is a day to celebrate volunteering.

In Western Australia IVD is also known as Thank A Volunteer Day (TAVD).

International Volunteer Day 2008 invite

International Volunteer Day takes place on Friday 5 December. An invitation is extended to members of Volunteering WA to nominate up to five volunteers to join His Excellency the Governor Dr Ken Michael AC CitWA & Mrs Julie Michael for afternoon tea in the magnificent grounds of Government House from 4pm – 6pm on Friday 5 December 2008.

Entry is by invitation only. Members are asked to forward the names of their volunteers to Volunteering WA. Personal invitations will then be posted to members to distribute to their nominated volunteers. Guests are asked to wear something red.

This special day is presented by Volunteering WA in partnership with the Department for Communities, School Volunteer Program, Scouts WA, Fire and Emergency Services Authority and Department of Sport and Recreation.

Applications for the Thank A Volunteer Day Celebration Grants Program, funded by the Department for Communities, are now closed. This year’s program will focus on whole of community events which bring together a range of volunteer organisations to recognise the valuable contribution volunteers make to the community.

Thank A Volunteer Day certificates

To coincide with the celebrations of TAVD the Department for Communities invites organisations to nominate volunteers who provide significant or outstanding services to volunteering in your community to receive a Certificate of Recognition signed by the Minister for Volunteering.
